Step 1, Join Shop Local Rewards: create your merchant account and join a network of local businesses working together to attract and retain customers.
Step 2, Fund Your Rewards Account: contribute $500 of products or services your business already provides to Shop Local Rewards and get credited 500 reward dollars to reward customers with -- no cash required.
Step 3, Set Your Rewards and Fund Your Merchant Fee Account: choose a reward percentage between 5% and 100% based on your business needs, the reward loads onto the customer's Shop Local Rewards card, Shop Local Rewards charges a 5% merchant advertising fee on each qualifying purchase, and you fund that fee by credit card or trade -- shown with a merchant handing a customer a Shop Local Rewards card in her shop.
Step 4, Reward Customers and Grow Your Business: a customer's reward loads instantly to their Shop Local Rewards card, redeemed reward dollars credit back to your Rewards Account, and eligible reward dollars can transfer to your linked trade account.

What it costs to accept a Shop Local Rewards transaction

When a customer spends their reward at your business, accepting it is free — no fee at all. Your only cost is your own 20.0% cost of goods, a total of $20.00.

Merchant-to-merchant transactions are processed through your barter providerunder that provider's own fees. Shop Local Rewards adds nothing — there is no GLR spend fee.

Reward dollars never expire. The merchant fulfilling your order pays no Shop Local Rewards fee to accept; their only cost is their own goods or labor. Merchant-to-merchant trade runs on your barter network.

Moving reward dollars to your barter account

Reward dollars stay in your Rewards Account until you choose to move them — nothing sweeps or converts on its own. When you're ready, you move that value to your linked barter account. Shop Local Rewards charges no fee to move reward dollars to your barter account. Amounts up to what you've moved into GLR come back as a refund and carry no new fees; amounts above that may be subject to fees from your barter provider.

Because moving earned reward dollars into your barter account can create reportable income, we structure this as something you elect to do, on your own timeline — never automatic. Consult your tax advisor about your own situation.
